One state has passed a new law requiring special standards for building a new nursing home. The standards involve care plans that are very different from the average nursing home protocol. Nursing homes are currently run similar to institutions with schedules that accommodate efficiency rather than preferences of patients.

A nursing home caregiver was sentenced to five years of probation for nursing home theft. She initially pled not guilty, but changed her plea to guilty. The caregiver was arrested after an investigation took place.

Three nursing home patients tested positive for Legionnaire’s disease. The disease is transmitted by water sources. Consequently, the nursing home had to turn off the water to the facility and bring bottled water to use.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) can be dangerous if left untreated. For the elderly it is even more important to receive proper treatment. If a patient is dependent on nursing care, they rely on the nursing home to provide proper treatment.

Two nursing home aides have been arrested for neglect of an elderly person. The patient at the nursing home suffered from dementia and was non-ambulatory. The patient was fully dependent on skilled nursing care.

A recent survey that was released ranking nursing homes for their quality of care level is eerily the same message from thirty years ago for one researcher.
