A family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit for their loved one who died in the care of a nursing home. The nursing home allegedly allowed the patient to develop infections, bed sores, and dehydration without proper prevention or treatment once the issues were present. The family has contacted an attorney to represent the six children in the case for their deceased mother.

A 92 year old patient has suffered abuse at a nursing home. The abuse came from a nurse manager who pulled the patient up by her arms and shoved her into a wheelchair. The patient did not want to get out of bed.

Loved ones searching for the right nursing home to care for their loved one are encouraged to investigate specific aspects of the home before making a selection. Loved ones and the even the patient should ask a hospital for recommendations based on the needs for skilled nurse care. Loved ones should also talk to the home, talk to others who have loved ones at the home, and be sure to visit the home.

Loved ones of nursing home patients are reminded that they have a right to view medical records. They are also encouraged to review them to verify the care their loved one is receiving. “We want to make sure the public is aware of this type of information because evaluating a patient’s medical chart is a good way to keep track of the care your loved one is receiving.” Some nursing homes deny access to medical records.

The government is cracking down on nursing homes and the use of antipsychotic drugs to control the behavior of their patients. A goal has been set to require the homes to reduce their use by 25% by the year 2016 and 30% by the year 2017. The nursing homes are agreeing to the requirement at this point.

Two nursing home companies found liable for abuse and neglect in a lawsuit still have not paid the $55 million a jury awarded to the families and victims of the abuse in 2010. The nursing home owners are saying they do not have the funding to pay the award. The issue is that funds may have been transferred to a shell company to protect the assets.
