Nursing Home Claims Charitable Immunity Over Wrongful Death Lawsuit Of Patient

A family attempting to file a wrongful death lawsuit after a loved one died at a nursing home was surprised to find that certain nursing homes can claim immunity. In at least one state nursing homes that are not for profit can claim charitable immunity from lawsuits. The law was put in place for hospitals who treated patients at no charge in the past to protect them from malpractice cases.

Nursing Home On Probation For Not Reporting Abuse Allegations

A nursing home is on probation for not reporting an allegation of abuse towards a patient within the required timeframe. Since they did not follow protocol, the nursing home is currently allowed to admit patients. Adult Protective Services completed an investigation about the abuse.

Union nursing home caregivers are on strike demanding better wages and benefits and lower nurse to patient ratios. The workers will not go into work until the nursing home administration will make changes to their agreements. In the meantime, the administration has hired replacements to maintain their facilities.
