A nursing home has put out a warning to visitors to limit visitation at a county-run nursing home. The warning is due to patients with suspected cases of scabies  at the home. The patients have been quarantined and are being treated for scabies symptoms.

One state looking to improve the quality of care in nursing homes statewide is starting a new initiative that will ultimately be required for all nursing homes in the state. The Department of Health is partnering with the Center for Aging and Community to provide regional programs for training and support. The initiative is called The Regional Healthcare Quality Improvement Collaborative Project.

A town meeting is addressing concerns for residents of a particular state proposing changes in the law regarding nursing home expenses. The new law would declare that the government can seize assets and properties of individuals who received Medicare during their nursing home stay. Some families are fine with this option.

An organization in support of quality care for the elderly is fighting to overturn a verdict upholding an appeal. The court overturned the ruling of $9 million awarded against a nursing home alleged to have forced nurses to falsify or destroy records. The concern with the appeal is that message it would send.

A state governor is facing charges for allegedly using a nursing home consultant title as a cover for managing a campaign for candidate running for office. The governor began working as a consultant about the time the campaign began. The governor remained in position as a consultant during the entire campaign.

Nursing home policies are in question when it comes to antipsychotic drugs.Nursing home care advocates are in favor of patients signing forms to require consent for patients to take the drugs. There has been an increase in patients receiving the drugs unnecessarily. However, there is a need to consider the patient as some may not be able to provide consent but suffer from schizophrenia.
