State legislature is focused on a bill to increase fines and impact the bottom line of nursing homes. The bill addresses the over-prescription of antipsychotic drugs. Nursing homes are abusing the patients by prescribing medications unnecessarily or beyond the actual need and then billing Medicare and Medicaid for the treatment of the patients.

One state attorney general is pushing a bill for cameras to be allowed in nursing homes to monitor patient care. The camera would incentivize caregivers to reduce abuse and neglect. The cost of the cameras would be covered by families who desire to have their loved one’s care monitored.

A nursing home caregiver and her daughter committed theft of a nursing home patient. The nursing home caregiver conned the man into giving her money apparently saying she would pay him back. The incremental “loan” amounts totaled more than $60,000.

Police are on the hunt for a woman who allegedly used nursing home patients’ credit cards to charge items. The theft involved seven different cards. The woman was not found in her home.

A nursing home nurse has been indicted for stealing medication drugs from a nursing home. Police investigations reveal she stole more than $11,800 worth of narcotics. The drugs included hydrocodone among other drugs.

One state is experiencing challenges rallying support from government leaders. The leaders seem to be more interested in investing their time fundraising for nursing homes. Nursing home care advocates say it should be the opposite.
