A nursing home is patient received poor quality care in relation to bed sores. She had already had a bed sore and was at a high risk for incurring another one. The doctor put procedures in place, as did the DON.

A nursing home investigation led to a director’s probation and fines in the amount of $4,750. The nursing home was cited 19 times for failing to administer prescribed medication to a patient. The patient was supposed to receive a blood thinner for a blood clot.

A licensed practical nurse has been indicted for endangering the life of an elderly or physically disabled person. The nursing home employee gave a patient morphine instead of a prescription muscle relaxer. She then tried to cover up her mistake.

Three nursing home employees have been indicted for criminal charges involving 69 of abuse, endangerment, and assault. The employees were arrested and after a police investigation of accusations. All of the employees worked at the same nursing home where the abuse took place.

The relationship between nursing homes and hospice care providers is under scrutiny as deeper investigations occur. The government is cracking down on illegal usage of funding and improper care between the two entities. Nursing homes and hospice providers are required to pay fines for any illegal activity.

Eight nursing homes have been investigated for incidents and ultimately fined. The incidents ranged from misuse of lifts to lack of follow through with documentation on patients in need of critical care. The fines ranged from $1,000 to $1,120.
