A nursing home caregiver was sentenced to 10 years of suspended time for abusing an elderly woman. The family videoed their loved one’s care and caught her caregiver verbally abusing, covering the patient’s mouth and pouring water down her feeding tube. The caregiver showed little remorse, telling the judge she was happy she was caught.

A nursing home bookkeeper has been convicted of stealing funds from patients’ trust funds. An audit of the trust funds revealed the bookkeeper had embezzled over $4,000 from the elderly residents. Discrepancies in the various accounts had lent to the possibility of theft.
