50% Of Nursing Home Hip Fractures End In Death Or Immobility

A study conducted with more than 60,000 nursing home residents from 2005 to 2009 shows that half of nursing home patients who fall and suffer from hip die or lose the ability to walk shortly after. Patients with hip fractures over the age of 90 are the most likely to die or become completely disabled. Individuals that live outside a nursing home are only in danger of a 20 percent chance of dying.
