Family Awarded $13.2 Millon By Jury For Nursing Home Death

The family of a deceased nursing home patient has been awarded $13.2 million dollars by a jury. The patient was sent to the nursing home for rehabilitation after falling at home and suffering a dislocated shoulder. Upon spending time at the nursing home, the injuries became far worse, with pressure ulcers leading to the loss of 20 pounds, multiple wound debridements, bone shaving and a colostomy.

Nursing Home Receives Fines of $185,000 For Abuse And Neglect Violations

A nursing home has been fined $185,000 for abuse and neglect that took place at the facility. The fines were set at $8,200 per day for a three week period and $1,000 per day after that until the home meets compliance. The state department for Aging and Disability Services interviewed 27 of the 63 residents to confirm allegations of abuse and neglect.

A nursing home has been fined $36,000 for the death of a patient due to medical and clerical errors. Because of the errors, the home will receive inspections every six months over a two year period. The primary areas of neglect included not administering blood-thinners accurately and failing to note bruises properly.
