Nursing home counsel is requesting an appellate court to throw out the testimony of an expert saying it is not a legitimate report. The case involves a man who suffered with Alzheimer’s and wandered away from the facility. He was left out overnight in 6 degree and froze to death.

A nursing home accountant’s bond is set at $10,000 for theft of over $50,000. She was caught stealing over the money from 5 residents by asking them to leave their checks blank and then writing her name as the recipient and depositing the checks into her account. The checks from the patients were meant to cover their rent money.

A state health department is under fire for its slow response time to complaints regarding negligence and abuse in nursing home healthcare. Cases remain open for years before receiving a response or a ruling. Lawsuits are being filed and ruled in the plaintiff’s favor, while years later, the review is still underway by the health department.

A former nursing home employee has been arrested after stealing a patient’s identification. The employee’s sister used a credit card in the 86-year-old victim’s name to pay for a $13,000 dental bill. The elderly woman was not a patient at the dentist, nor did she have knowledge of the credit card.  An investigation began after the credit card payment was made in the victim’s name for dental work she had not received.

A nursing home is working to defend its actions after accusations have come forth that they wrongfully brought in a male stripper to entertain the female patients at the home. The son of one of the patients has filed a lawsuit in disgust that the home where is mother is staying would offer this type of entertainment. He notes that his mother was using dollar bills from her account to tip the stripper that were to be used for commissary expenses.

A nursing home is taking steps to identify a potential rapist among its staff after an incident with a patient by resubmitting background checks on its staff and cancelling all shifts for male employees. Police were alerted to an alleged rape the morning after the incident occurred. The victim was taken to the emergency room for treatment.
