A nursing home addition caught on fire requiring an evacuation of the nursing home at 5:00am. Over 100 fire fighters were called to the scene to put out the fire. The facility was adding a new wing which was completely demolished in the fire.

A nursing home is under investigation regarding the death of a 93-year-old resident. He was left out in the sun without being checked for 3 hours and 45 minutes. His external body temperature was 104.4 and he had second and third degree burns.

A nursing home care giver is being offered a 5-10 year split sentence for theft from a nursing home patient. She was convicted of stealing thousands of dollars from the woman. She was also accused and acquitted of second degree murder for giving the patient a fatal dose of insulin.

A healthcare consultant company led a focus group study in a group of nursing homes to find that residents were not satisfied with their care. In the focus group, residents and their families reported that nursing home staff would not honor the wishes of residents when requests were made. This left families wanting and looking for more in the area of compassionate care.
