A retired sergeant and his neighbor decided to share Christmas with veterans in nursing homes this year. They spread the word of their desire to raise funds for local veterans to purchase gifts in the amount of $600.  “Veterans and nursing home are key words when you are asking people for donations,” said the sergeant.

JROTC students visit a certain nursing home every year for Christmas. The tradition has been in place for the past 30 years. Both the students and residents look forward to the visit, which includes singing favorite carols.

A fifth grade class remembered nursing home residents that may not receive other visits this holiday season. They brought each resident at a nursing home a gift and sang them Christmas carols. The tradition has been alive for many years.

A nursing home was found negligent in not reporting sexual assaults which led to the conviction of a former nursing home carer. He was caught sexually assaulting two women in two instances by a nurse on duty. However, the issue was not reported to the police in either situation.

A few young people in connection with various nursing homes have been charged with felonies for stealing checks from nursing home residents and using them for personal purchases. The reasons for stealing and illegally writing the checks ranged from buying drugs to providing for daily needs in lieu of having a job. The young people were giving excuses for needing the money.

Nursing home residents were surprised with holiday gifts from a local business. The purpose was to appreciate and thank seniors for the impact they have made on their country and the sacrifices they made in their lifetimes. Each resident received a gift and a carnation.
