A USA Today investigation sheds light on a common problem – the stealing from nursing home residents’ trust funds by nursing home workers across the United States. Connecticut has become the first state in the nation with a ‘bill of rights for nursing home residents.’ The law covers retaliation by nursing home staffers against residents who complain about their service. A town hall meeting was called by residents to discuss concerns about the treatment of patients at a local nursing home. On woman whose mother was at the nursing home in 2010 and 2011 said she can’t forget about how her mother was treated there. “She had a broken hip that she sat in the nursing home for two days before anyone would call an ambulance,” she said.

Police are investigating alleged abuse of a nursing home patient by an employee of the home. “The incident was reported to us by a concerned family member and a staff member of the care facility on September 3rd,” said the sheriff. “The allegations reported to us are physical in nature inflicted on a resident at the facility, and an investigation was immediately launched.” The 86-year old woman is in the hospital with bruises and a broken bone.

A nursing home resident was flown by medical helicopter for emergency treatment after he was impaled by scissors in his chest. Police were called to the nursing home and state that it was another resident who stabs the victim. For more, read the story.
