Nursing Home Residents Who Fall More Likely To Have Brain Injuries

A recent study found that more than one third of falls in nursing homes result in residents hitting their heads. Using  video footage of 227 falls suffered by 133 seniors in a long-term care facility, the researchers discovered head strikes in 37% of the falls. In 63% of those falls, residents hit their heads on the floor, usually striking hard flooring, such as tile or linoleum.

Assisted Living Owner Guilty Of Neglect After Resident Falls Through Floor

A former assisted living center owner pled guilty to neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in physical injury. Last year, an 84-year-old Alzheimer’s patient fell through the floor of a room into the floor below suffering broken bones and a severe head injury. The facility owner initially denied knowing how the woman was injured.

Nursing Home Cited For Improperly Leaving Resident at Truck Stop

Nursing home employees left a resident in a wheelchair at a truck stop recently because he would not agree to a mandatory background check. State health officials cited the nursing home for neglect for leaving the man at the truck stop with out medication or identification. Specifically, the parent company of the nursing home was cited for improper nursing care, violating a resident’s rights and an involuntary transfer.

Nursing Homes Accused of Resident Neglect; Wheelchair Bound Woman Found on Turnpike

Two separate nursing homes have been cited for several incidents of resident neglect, including a drug overdoes and broken bones. In one incident, a resident was taken to the hospital unresponsive after suffering an overdose of opiates, according to investigators. The investigation determined that the resident had been given morphine and thyroid medicine by mistake.
