Snapchat is a smartphone application that takes a picture that can be sent to a recipient or multiple recipients who can view it for 10 seconds and then it “disappears.” It is a highly popular fad with teenagers. Assisted Living Resident Run Over By Police Car After Allowed to Wander Away

A 62-year-old resident of an assisted living facility died after he wandered away from the facility and was struck by a police cruiser at 5 a.m. The man who had schizophrenia, dementia and near-blindness had previously wandered from the facility twice and was found about a mile away each time. The man’s family is disappointed in how the facility did not better look out for his brother.

Study: Racial Disparities In Nursing Home Care

A recent study found that poor and aging black Americans may have lower quality nursing home care. Researchers at the University of Central Florida explained that statistics show that nursing homes that serve predominantly black residents tend to struggle financially and provide lower quality care than those with no black residents. “There is no simple fix,” assistant professor Latarsha Chisholm of the University of Central Florida said.

Assisted Living Facility Aide Sentenced for Badly Burning Resident's Feet With Hot Water

An aide at an assisted living center was sentenced to two years (deferred) for her role in a resident’s extensive injuries to her feet from too-hot water.   The 24-year-old former aide pled guilty to negligence causing serious bodily injury to an at-risk adult, a felony. She also must perform 240 hours of community service and won’t be allowed to be a caretaker during her sentence.
