A former director at an assisted living center is pleads no contest in allegations of using a patient’s debit card while at several casinos. The director gained access to the patient’s account because the patient had dementia and could not properly manage her finances. The fraud was not discovered until the director left position and the replacement found errors in bank statements and accounting records.

Nursing Home Employee Steals from Resident

For over six months a nursing home employee stole money from a resident that she was caring for. The employee was authorized to access his bank account in order to make purchases for him but instead chose to transfer the money into her own account. The nursing home director was contacted by the resident’s bank and alerted that the resident’s account was overdrawn.

An investigation is ongoing into allegations of a nurse beating an elderly resident while in the nursing home. According to family members of the resident, the nurse attacked her after she begged the nurse to give her pain medication. It was reported that the resident accessed and pushed the nurse call button for help but no one came and then she began crying.

The first victim’s report of abuse was investigated but determined to be unfounded. Because the investigation was determined to be unfounded, the nursing assistant was allowed to return to work.

A former nursing home nursing manager set fire to beds while the resident slept and is sentenced to life in prison. When fire rescue arrived, they found smoke coming from the windows and everyone in a state of panic. The 37-year-old male nurse and arsonist who murdered 11 nursing home residents was expressionless as the sentence for the November 2011 crime was handed down.
