Nurse Indicted in Theft of Drug from Nursing Home

A registered nurse was indicted on two charges for taking a Fentanyl patch for a 91-year-old woman in a nursing home was suspended by state regulators. The resident told staff that a nurse had removed the old patch but did not replace it because she said she had an emergency in the next room. According to state regulators, the nurse was suspected by fellow staff members when she stated that she discarded an old patch that was on a resident and replaced it with a new one.

State Uncovers Serious Violations at Nursing Home

Violations that include an extension cord with exposed wires were found and places nursing home residents in jeopardy of risk of electric shock, fire, or death if the problems are not corrected. The Department of Health is requiring the nursing home to hire an outside contractor to evaluate the hazards and implement a plan of correction. Other issues that were documented included areas housekeeping and maintenance, catheter use, prevention and treatment of pressure sores, and infection control.

Fire Department Suspects AC Unit Caused Nursing Home Fire

Fire Department officials say a fire that was confined to one room of a nursing home and forced the evacuation of one building wing, appears to have started near a wall air conditioning unit. The air conditioning unit was removed to further investigate the cause of the fire. The fire apparently ignited while the resident was out of the room and when an employee noticed smoke and went to the door, the room was engulfed in flames.

Two Accused of Elder Abuse an Assisted Care Facility

Arrests were made involving two people that were responsible for causing injuries of a 93-year-old woman at an assisted care facility. Authorities were informed that caregivers at the facility were thought to be involved in the abuse that had been going on for some time. Staff members report that the two employees hit the resident with fists and other objects and thrown her onto her bed.

Man Steals from Assisted-Living Facility

According to authorities a man turned himself in to police relating to charges of a string of theft at an Assisted Living Facility where he worked. The man committed the thefts over a 14 week period. The state department of social services provides licensing for the facility and potential employees undergo criminal backgrounds checks.
