Troubled Nursing Home Closure Displaces 137
Poor record keeping and resident safety are among several reasons why a troubled nursing home will close. Since 2007, the nursing home has been on a federal watch list for numerous problems. The facility has also incurred nearly $374,000 in state and federal fines for problems that include mishandling a reported sexual abuse case and failing to provide CPR to one of its residents.
Assisted Living Facility Sued When Resident Dies
An assisted living center is being sued for negligence in the death of an 85-year-old female resident. Five children of the deceased resident filed suit that their mother died from cold exposure in January, after she walked out of living facility with temperatures in the teens. The plaintiff’s attorney says that the family hopes to learn more information about the circumstances in which the victim left the building.
Wrongful Death Suit Settled in Nursing Home Case
A nursing home chain has settled a wrongful death lawsuit that claimed negligence, premises liability and breach of fiduciary duty. In the suit, an 85 year old resident of four years, died due pressure sores and infections that staff failed to prevent and staff also neglected to assess changes in her physical and mental conditions. In the complaint filed, it is alleging that the resident also fell while she resided at the nursing home.
Assisted Living Facility Loses Track of Resident
An assisted living facility was forced to shut down after an elderly man left the facility by climbing out of a window and remained unnoticed until family members called and reported the man’s location. According to reports, the man climbed out of his bedroom window and hitched a ride from someone in order to get to his family. The report also stated that employees were not following facility regulations by not paying proper attention to the residents.
97-Year-Old Dies After Waiting Days for Treatment
An elderly female was forced to wait days for stitches while doctors argued over who was responsible for her care. Medics at the medical centre also failed to notice that she had previously broken her knee in a fall. The patient was discovered on the floor by a janitorial cleaner on a ward that was short staffed.
Nursing Home Patient Chokes to Death
A nursing home is held responsible for the death of a patient that had swallowing difficulties and choked on food while out on a lunchtime outing accompanied by staff members. An 86 year old who disabled from stroke, died a day after the choking incident. In a released report, investigators said staff members gave the patient noodles which also contained chunks of meat.
