Nursing Homes Fined After Three Resident Neglect Deaths

The health department in one state recently fined three nursing homes a total of $200,000 for incidents that led to three resident deaths. The first facility received a $75,000 fine, the second facility was fined $65,000, and the last facility was fined $60,000. All three citations are the most severe penalty the state can issue.

Judge Upholds Jury Award in Nursing Home Bed Sore Death

A judge has upheld a large jury award in the death of an elderly woman who suffered from multiple bed sores (also known as pressure sores, decubitus sores, pressure ulcers, and decubitus ulcers) at an assisted living facility.  This week the judge said that Emeritus Senior Living Corporation was guilty of a “high degree of reprehensibility” in the care it provided to the elderly patient. Family Sues Nursing Home After Neglect Related Death

The estate of a former nursing home resident has filed suit against the facility, claiming the negligence of an employee resulted in the woman’s death. The woman’s family has sued the nursing home, a doctor, and a nurse practitioner with the facility. The resident was admitted to the nursing home following a surgery in 2011.

Nursing Home Sued After Dementia Patient Died After Wandering Out of Facility

A county nursing home has become the defendant in a lawsuit alleging staff negligence that led to the death of a patient. The suit involves an 85-year-old resident at the nursing home who died of a heart attack last December. The patient was found outside the facility in the cold early morning hours and was later declared dead at a nearby hospital.
