Two senior nurses are charged with falsifying the medical records of vulnerable nursing home patients. According to court documents, the nurses told investigators they forged medical records so the nursing home would not get in trouble. Officials say the fraud made it impossible to tell if the patients really received the medication the needed.

Police have charged a woman with four counts of felony elder abuse related to the care of elderly nursing home patients. The woman was employed at the 80-bed facility on and off for roughly five years. The abuse was discovered when the facility’s director of nursing alerted police that she had received multiple emails from other staff who thought the woman was abusing patients.

Officials from the state department of health officials say a nursing home employee exploited facility residents by stealing narcotics for the employee’s own use. Investigators say the case was reported by the facility to health officials and local police. The employee stole the medication from a patient who was admitted to the nursing home for rehabilitation following surgery.

Officials have forced an assisted living facility to close after state investigators say the facility failed to provide adequate care to patients. The director has 20 days to close the faicility. The State Agency for Health Care Administration said the facility permitted two patients to wander away and did not act adequately to prevent a man with schizophrenia from forcibly raping another patient who suffered from dementia.

Two former nursing home employees are scheduled to be sentenced later this summer on charges of conspiracy and exploitation of a vulnerable person. According to reports, the two have been accused of stealing more than $100,000 on nearly 400 occasions. Both employees pleaded guilty last month.

One family decided to investigate the nursing home where their loved one was living when they found the woman with bruises and a busted lip.  One family member said the elderly woman kept saying that people were hitting her.
