Caretaker Will Go To Trial After Allegedly Hitting Elderly Patient In The Head With Walker

According to prosecutors, a caretaker accused of hitting an elderly man on the head with his own walker will stand trial on charges of assault and elder abuse. The 50-year-old suspect was ordered to take the stand after  a preliminary hearing last week. The caretaker was arrested in 2011, after the 88-year-old man he was hired to care for was found bleeding heavily from a head wound as the caretaker slept in the next room, according to prosecutors.

Caregiver Arrested After Police Found Injured Elderly Man in Unsanitary Conditions

Police have charged a man hired as a personal caregiver for an elderly, disabled man with felony abuse charges. According to police, the elderly patient was found in unclean conditions and suffering from multiple suspicious injuries. The caregiver called for emergency assistance last week telling the operator that the man had fallen out of bed and he could not lift him.

State Enacts Bill to Broaden Criminal Classifications of Elder Abuse and Neglect

Alabama has enacted the Protecting Alabama’s Elders Act applauded by the attorney general as a bill that will strengthens legal protections from financial exploitation and physical or emotional abuse for all people aged 60 and older.  The Attorney General’s Office was actively involved in crafting the legislation. Nursing Home Employee Arrested for Selling Jewelry Stolen from Elderly Residents

According to police a woman who stole personal property from several elderly nursing home residents has been arrested. Last month an elderly nursing home resident came forward after realizing she was missing several pieces of her late husband’s jewelry. Detectives began investigating and discovered an employee of the nursing home had been selling jewelry and a digital camera at a pawn shop.
