The governor of one state has called for an investigation into a nursing home for veterans was accused of beign short-staffed. A representative from the Governor’s office said that the governor wants to ensure that the facility is running smoothly and the veterans are receiving proper care. The investigation is in response to a complaint by a state public workers union about the nursing home conditions.
Coroner Rules Death of Elderly Nursing Home Patient was Homicide
In one state, police and the district attorney are investigating the death of an elderly nursing home patient after the death was ruled a homicide. The county coroner announced this week that the death would be ruled a homicide. The 85-year-old resident was pushed by another resident at the facility on April 20th.
Jury Finds for Family of Nursing Home Resident who Died from Urinary Tract Infection
This week a jury rendered a substantial verdict for the family of an elderly woman who died in 2011 after being neglected in a nursing home. The 88-year-old woman, who entered the facility to recover from two broke ankles, died from complications of a urinary tract infection (UTI) and excessive pain medications. The woman was admitted with a catheter and developed a UTI while at the facility. She also received Percocet doses beyond what her physician had ordered.
Trial Against Nursing Home Underway After Resident Died Following Neglect Related Decline
Trial is underway today for the family of a nursing home resident who died in 2008 due to nursing home neglect. The family asserts that the elderly woman was not cared for properly at the facility. While at the facility, the woman suffered from pressure sores, dehydration, malnutrition, sepsis, and a maggot infestation.
Assisted Living Facility Resident Found Unresponsive in Urine Soaked Room
Health officials in one state indicate that an elderly assisted living facility resident is recovering after being found in a room full of urine and mold. The State Health Department found the facility responsible for neglect after the disabled man was found unconscious in the unsanitary conditions. A woman living in a Florida assisted living facility celebrated her 107th birthday last month. The woman has lived at the assisted living facility for about three years after it became hard for her to climb the steps at her condo. Her son, 76, was at the facility to help her celebrate.
