Care Home Owner Sentenced to Prison In Connection With Patient's Death
The owner of a personal care home previously shut down by the state was sentenced Friday to a minimum of six months in prison for neglecting a resident. The 80-year-old resident died in 2011 from malnutrition, pneumonia, and bed sores (also known as pressure sores, pressure ulcers, decubitus sores, and decubitus ulcers). In addition to the charges against the owner, two aides were also charged with criminal neglect.
Nursing Home Receptionist Stole Over $40,000 from Facility
A woman has been ordered to pay over $40,000 in restitution after stealing from a nursing home where she worked. The woman has been sentence to jail after being charged with fifty-four counts of theft. The woman, 56, was employed as a nursing home receptionist from 2004-2007.
Caregivers Charged with Neglect and Financial Exploitation of Three Elderly Women
A caregiver and her boyfriend have been charged with neglect and financial exploitation of three incapacitated adults at a care home. The couple is awaiting trial over the incidents which occurred between August 2011 and August 2012. The suspects each face three counts of neglect of an incapacitated adult, one count of financial exploitation, and one count of conspiracy to neglect.
Nursing Home Fined $36,000 Following Allegations of Sexual Abuse of Resident
Officials in one state have issued a $36,000 fine against a nursing home for its handling of a sexual abuse allegation. Inspectors found the nursing home failed to properly report allegations that an employee crawled into bed with a patient. According to the report, a facility resident accused an employee of climbing into bed with her roommate.
Former Nursing Home Aide Found Guilty of Resident Abuse
A jury returned a guilty verdict last week in the case of a nursing home employee charged with patient abuse. The former nursing home aide was convicted on felony patient abuse after an incident with a patient. The 31-year-old woman was working at the facility last February when she got into a fight with an elderly resident.
State Revokes License of Financially Defunct Nursing Home Preventing Sale of Facility
State officials have revoked the license of a nursing home which recently closed its doors. The facility was cited for failing to follow proper procedures when it closed. The facility failed to properly notify the state and facility residents who were to be discharged. The facility does not plan to appeal the revocation.
