Family Sues Nursing Home After Resident Died of Hypothermia Outside Facility
The family of a nursing home patient who died a year ago, after wandering from the facility and dying of hypothermia, has sued the nursing home and employee responsible for the wandering. The patient was 84-years-old when she died last April. At the time of the resident’s death, only one resident-care assistant was on duty to supervise roughly 30 residents.
Cargivers Arrested after Police Find Elderly Woman Suffering from Severe Pressure Ulcers
According to the Department of Elderly Affairs, a couple was arrested last month on charges of elder abuse after a woman was found near death with a severe case of bedsores (also known as pressure sores, pressure ulcers, decubitus sores, and decubitus ulcers). The man and woman arrested were care providers to the 78-year-old woman. The woman was discovered after a concerned neighbor contacted police.
Owner of Assisted Living Facility Charged With Abuse After Tying Feces to Patient's Neck
A jury trial will soon be underway for a woman accused of abusing elderly patients at an assisted living facility. The 69-year-old woman was indicted last fall on felony charges of causing intentional injury to an elderly person. The trial is expected to take place over the course of next week.

Nursing Home Fined $1.3 Billion For Deficiencies Including Sexual Assualt of Residents
The Department of Health in one state has fined a nursing home over $1.3 million for not taking appropriate actions when a patient who was a registered sex offender had inappropriate contact with other residents.
