Police have reported the death of an elderly woman in a nursing home fire earlier this week. According to officials, the fire which occurred Tuesday in the early morning hours caused the need to evacuate 70 resident from the facility. Former Aide Pleaded Guilty to Neglect of Elderly Patient with Sores Left in Soiled Linens

A woman pleaded guilty this week to neglect of an elderly care home resident. The former aide is the third suspect to enter a guilty plea in the case.  The charges stem from the death of an 80-year-old man in 2011 with multiple bed sores (also known as pressure sores, pressure ulcers, decubitus sores, and decubitus ulcers) who smelled of feces and urine. The aide is accused of failing to care for the resident during her shift.

Nursing Home Fined For Over-Medicating Elderly Fall Victim

The Department of Health in one state has issued a $100,000 penalty against a nursing home that over-medicated an 82-year-old resident on blood thinners.  According to officials, the resident suffered a serious stroke before moving to the facility. In the Spring of 2011, the resident fell and hit his head while at the facility. Despite a black eye and other facial bruises, the resident was not hospitalized until four days later when his daughter insisted.

Nursing Home Employee Stabbed to Death By Visitor Who Held a Grudge

 The man who stabbed a nursing home janitor to death at the facility has admitted to police that he had a grudge against the janitor. The 48-year-old janitor was stabbed to death last week by a man who was visiting his brother at the facility. According to the arrest warrant, the suspect had an argument with the janitor months ago at the facility.

Convicted Sex Offender in Nursing Home Charged with Sexually Assaulting Quadriplegic

A 68-year-old registered sex offender was arrested last week after being accused of molesting a quadriplegic nursing home patient. According to police, the incident took place at the facility where both the suspect and victim were residents. The facility is run by Consulate Health Care, a national nursing home chain that operates facilities in several states including Virginia.
