Virginia Nursing Home Graduates from Medicare's List of Special Focus Facilities

As of January 17, 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) have identified Avante at Harrisonburg, of Harrisonburg, Virginia as a special focus facility which has recently graduated from the program. According to CMS, special focus facilities are facilities that have been identified as having care issues that put the facility at risk of losing its federal funding. The special focus facilities generally have twice as many care deficiencies as the average nursing home.

Aide Arrested After Family Captures Nursing Home Abuse on Hidden Camera

A woman who suspected that her grandmother was being abused in a nursing home made a startling discovery after she installed a hidden camera in her grandmother’s bedroom. Operator of Assisted Living Facility Arrested for Possessing Medication

The manager of a small assisted living facility was arrested after she was found with prescription drugs that belonged to former residents, police said Friday. Caregiver Charged With Elder Abuse After Patient Died From Severe Pressure Ulcers

The State Attorney General in one state has charged a care giver with elder abuse after the death of an elderly woman in her care. The 88-year-old patient died last June from large bedsores (also known as pressure sores, pressure ulcers, decubitus sores, and decubitus ulcers) at the in home elder care facility. The victim had dementia and her family paid the facility almost $3,000 a month to care for her.
