Assisted Living Facility Aide Arrested For Stealing Medication and Personal Items

Police arrested a nurse assistant yesterday at an assisted living center for theft and elder abuse. The woman is accused of stealing medication and personal belongings from residents. According to police, facility residents and the administration contacted them to report that medication and personal belongings, such as jewelry and money, seemed to be missing from residents rooms.  Video surveillance was used to gather  enough evidence to charge the employee.

Nursing Home Employee Neglected Patient When She Failed to Perform CPR or Call 911

CBS Minnesota reports that a former nursing home employee is accused of neglect in connection with the death of a patient with known breathing problems who died in the bathroom. According to investigators from the State Department of Health, the resident was not given CPR and 911 was not called. The patient had been admitted to the facility after a brief hospital visit related to breathing problems associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (“COPD”).

Elderly Nursing Home Resident Fractures Leg and Hip in Jump From Second-Story Window

Police have reported that a 72-year-old nursing home resident was badly injured when she jumped from a second-story window at the facility last Saturday. The woman, who suffers from dementia, has been hospitalized for treatment of a fractured leg and hip. According to police, the woman had been admitted to the facility recently and prior to admission had a history of wandering away from her own home.

Group Home Employee Arrested After YouTube Video Surfaced Showing Patient Abuse

A 57-year-old group home employee has been arrested after video surfaced of her abusing a 53-year-old mentally disabled man in her care at the facility. According to police, the woman was arrested after her employer discovered the video on YouTube and brought it to the police. Police have confirmed that the video reveals the employee striking the male resident in the head, face, and neck.

Nursing Home Closing After Failure to Correct Violations; 55 Residents Must Find New Homes

Nursing home residents at one facility were forced to find new homes after a nursing home closed its doors. The facility was cited for issues with the building late last year. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services gave the facility notice that if the problems were not corrected in 60 days, they would be forced to pull out all funding to the nursing home.  When the facility did not correct the violations, federal officials ceased the flow of funding to the facility.

Nursing Home Fined Over $350,000 for Serious Care Deficiencies

State and federal regulators have imposed a pair of fines totaling $372,970 on a North Carolina nursing home. The facility received a $223,795 fine last March for patient neglect just 15 months after a similar penalty of nearly $150,000. The fines ranked second highest in the state since 2009 and the 12th highest in the nation, according to ProPublica.
