Federal Officials File Suit Against Nursing Home Accused of Medicare Fraud
Federal officials from the Department of Justice are joining a whistleblower lawsuit claiming a nursing home operator was billing Medicare for services never provided to residents. According to the complaint, the facility operator provided only the most basic care services to residents. The failure to provide adequate care resulted in pressure ulcers (also known as bed sores, decubitus sores, decubitus ulcers, and pressure sores), falls, dehydration and malnutrition.
Nursing Home Resident In Critical Condition After Being Beaten By Roommate
An elderly nursing home resident is in critical condition after being brutally beaten by his roommate. The 86-year-old man was beaten with a large magnet tied to a string by his 87-year-old roommate who believed he had been stealing from him. According to police, the roommate was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The victim remains in critical condition following the incident.
Two Nurses Charged with Trafficking Drugs Stolen from Nursing Home and Hospital Residents
A husband and wife who are both nurses have been arrested on felony drug charges for stealing drugs from patients at nursing homes and hospitals. The couple, in their late twenties, were both charged with fourth degree drug trafficking. The couple was discovered after undercover police officers purchased drugs from the couple at their home.
Nursing Home Outbreak Diagnosed as Norovirus
The gastrointestinal illness that has infected over 50 residents and employees of one nursing home has been identified as norovirus. Signs of the illness first emerged Nov. 24 and the situation has been under observation by officials from the Department of Public Health Department ever since.

A woman working as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at a senior care facility has been accused of stealing residents’ jewelry and money. The woman was arrested this week on fourteen counts of abuse of a dependent adult, each count punishable by up to five years in prison. According to police, the woman stole from the residents while she was on-duty over a period of several months.
