New Bill Would Permit Coroners to Investigate Nursing Home Deaths, if Passed

One state is considering a law that would enable a coroner to investigate nursing home deaths under certain circumstances. According to the bill, every death that occurs in a senior living facility would be reported to a coroner. Depending upon certain criteria, such as the decedent’s medical history, the coroner could then determine if an investigation is necessary.

Family Files Lawsuit Following the “Preventable Death” of Relative in a Nursing Home

A lawsuit was born after a family alleges their relative’s mental and physical health declined after being admitted to a nursing home.  According to the suit, the 65-year-old was a victim of several preventable deficiencies.  Claims against the nursing home and its administrator include failure to prevent and treat pressure ulcers, dehydration, and infection, among others.
