The son of an elderly man who died in a nursing home has sued the facility after he found photos of his dying father posted on Craigslist with insulting remarks. The family of an elderly assisted-living facility resident has settled a civil lawsuit with a man accused and later acquitted of attacking and sexually assaulting the woman. The man has now signed an admission that he committed at least one “act” against the woman, however, he has not admitted to raping the resident. The family began to suspect that the woman was being sexually abused by the man, whose wife was a close friend of the victim, when a caregiver reported finding the resident shirtles…

A former nursing home aide was sentenced to two years in prison last week after she was caught on video stuffing latex gloves into the mouth of a 96-year-old patient with dementia. The woman, 23, plead guilty to abusing the resident. As part of a plea deal, all but two years of a 7-year prison sentence were suspended.

State officials have permanently shut down an assisted living facility and an adult day care center after they discovered patients had been abused and neglected. The state had sued and accused both facilities of threatening the health and safety of over 50 residents. As part of the settlement, the owners agreed to shut down the facilities, pay a $100,000 fine and refrain from providing health care services in the future.

Jurors have ordered a nursing home to pay damages to the the family of a man who died from nursing home neglect. The man, a former professional wrestler, died at age 72 after losing 32 pounds with in 63 days at the facility. A woman formerly employed at a group home admitted last week that she stole almost $9,000 from facility residents. The 37-year-old caretaker plead guilty to financial exploitation of a disabled person, a crime which could lead to seven years in prison.  The woman was the house manager at the private care facility. The facility provides assisted living to men with developmental disabilities.
