Family Settles Suit After Suspected Sexual Assault at Assisted Living Facility
The family of an elderly assisted-living facility resident has settled a civil lawsuit with a man accused and later acquitted of attacking and sexually assaulting the woman. Nursing Home Aide Sentenced to Prison For Physical Abuse of Elderly Resident
A former nursing home aide was sentenced to two years in prison last week after she was caught on video stuffing latex gloves into the mouth of a 96-year-old patient with dementia. The woman, 23, plead guilty to abusing the resident. As part of a plea deal, all but two years of a 7-year prison sentence were suspended.
Assisted Living Facility and Adult Day Care Center Shut Down After Discovery of Abuse
State officials have permanently shut down an assisted living facility and an adult day care center after they discovered patients had been abused and neglected. The state had sued and accused both facilities of threatening the health and safety of over 50 residents. Jurors have ordered a nursing home to pay damages to the the family of a man who died from nursing home neglect. Group Home Employee Pleads Guilty to Stealing From Disabled Residents
A woman formerly employed at a group home admitted last week that she stole almost $9,000 from facility residents. The 37-year-old caretaker plead guilty to financial exploitation of a disabled person, a crime which could lead to seven years in prison. The woman was the house manager at the private care facility. The facility provides assisted living to men with developmental disabilities.
