Assisted Living Facility Administrator Charged with Fraud Continues to Operate Facility

Officials have discovered that a Florida woman currently on house arrest for allegations of fraud is still running an assisted-living facility. The woman was charged with fraud after allegedly billing a hospital for $83,000 for temporary employees that her company did not actually supply. According to detectives, the “employees” who were paid the money were actually friends of the woman who returned much of the money to her.

New Legislation Opens Up Nursing Home Positions to Convicted Criminals

Laws in one state were modified this month to allow convicted criminals of offenses such as assault, battery and first degree robbery to work in nursing homes. The Executive Director of the State Association of Health Care Providers explained that the law changes what crimes would be considered barriers for employment in the nursing home industry. Nursing Home Cited For Resident's Death When Air Conditioning Stopped Working Last Summer

Officials with the Department of Health and Environment Control have determined the care at a nursing home where a woman died in intense heat last summer was “substandard.”  The 84-year-old resident was found unresponsive last June after the air conditioning in her wing of the facility stopped working. Assisted Living Facility Resident Dead After Wheelchair Rolled Into Water-Filled Ditch

Officials are investigating the death of 94-year-old assisted living facility resident who died in a wheelchair accident during a facility fire drill.  The woman was injured after her wheelchair rolled down a hill outside the facility and into a ditch filled with water. Fire and Rescue officials were called to the scene after the resident was found in the ditch by a caregiver.
