Nursing Home Resident Dead After Nurses Neglected to Provide Life Saving Treatment
A nursing home has been fined $8,000 after a woman died in front of family members because she couldn’t breathe. The 64-year-old patient was under a physician’s order to periodically have her airway suctioned due to the phlegm that collected in her throat. She passed away in June of suffocation because her throat was not cleared by facility staff.
Community Acknowledges 40-Year Nursing Home Volunteer
One community is celebrating a woman who has been volunteering in a local nursing home since 1969. She started volunteering after the nursing home activity director suggested that she would enjoy it. “She asked me would I be interested in doing the shopping cart because the gal that did it was going to do babysitting, and so I said yes,” explained the woman. More than 40 years later, she still takes the shopping cart from room to room for residents to buy snacks.
Assisted Living Facility Resident Found Wandering Along Busy Highway
An assisted living facility was ordered by the state Department of Health to increase its alarm system after a dementia patient was found wandering along a busy highway. After the incident, investigators determined the facilities security and alarm system were inadequate in warning staff to the resident’s wandering tendencies. The facility was found to have neglected the patient’s supervision.
Caregiver Charged with Stealing Thousands of Dollars in Jewelry From Elderly Patient
Police have arrested a suspect for stealing jewelry from an elderly woman who she was hired to care for. The elderly woman’s daughter discovered the theft and reported it to police. The deputy learned that the 86-year-old victim was the resident of an assisted living facility. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division became involved and learned that nine jewelry items had gone missing, which were worth thousands of dollars.
Doctor Sued In Connection With Severe Bedsores Which Led to Patient's Death
Family members of an elderly woman, who died five years ago from severe pressure ulcers (also know as pressure sores, decubitus ulcers, decubitus sores, and bed sores) which became infected,requested a court to find the woman’s doctor liable for neglecting the sores. The independent physician is accused in the malpractice lawsuit of substituting observations of nurses for actual exams as the woman’s bedsores deteriorated. Nursing Home Patient Dies After Receiving Another Resident's Medication
The family of a nursing home resident who died because due to neglect and medication errors has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the nursing home and six individuals. According to the lawsuit the 40-year-old mentally disabled male resident was admitted to the facility April 29.
