Four Suspended from Nursing Home After Abuse of Elderly Resident was Caught on Camera
State investigators have released their findings regarding allegations of abuse at a nursing home. The daughter of an elderly nursing home resident caught the alleged abuse on a hidden camera placed in the woman’s room. As a result of the investigation, four nursing home employees were suspended indefinitely, including the center’s administrator.
Family Settles Case of Elderly Nursing Home Woman Raped by Another Resident
The family of an elderly female nursing home resident sexually assaulted by another resident have settled their wrongful death claim against the facility. Lawyers for both sides announced last week before the second week of trial was to begin that the case had been settled. The 90-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a fellow resident at the home in January 2009.
Nursing Home Employee Gets 2.5 Years Prison & $500,000 Fine After Stealing From Elderly
A woman has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after cashing nursing home residents’ benefit checks for her personal use, according to federal prosecutors.The woman was sentenced on one count of embezzlement and five counts of filing false tax returns. Prosecutors said that in four years as a bookkeeper at a nursing home, she embezzled $440,958.05. The former nursing home employee was able to cover her theft by making accounting adjustments to the residents’ accounts, prosecutors said.
Nursing Home Fined After Resident Choked to Death
The State Department of Health is investigating a nursing home where a resident choked to death. The Health Department cited the nursing home this month for a deficiencies which placed residents in “immediate jeopardy.” The 450 resident facility claims the care issues have been corrected since the recent deadly incident. The details of the choking incident have not yet been released.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has recently update its list of troubled nursing homes and four Virginia Facilities has landed on the list. The list is designed to help families choosing nursing homes to quickly identify those facilities with a history of serious care deficiencies.
