Sheriff’s in one state have been notifying the community of an 82-year-old dementia patient who was able to walk out of his doctor’s office following a check-up. The elderly man was supposed to be waiting in the lobby for a transport service to return him to his care facility. On Tuesday morning police released a photo of the man leaving the facility at 2:58 p.m.

The family of an elderly woman have filed a lawsuit after finding a caretaker installed a stripper pole inside the elder woman’s home. The family of the 92-year-old said the woman’s backyard is filled obvious signs of abuse. The woman’s hired caregiver was previously sentenced to 56 days in jail after pleading no contest in 2008 to charges of elder abuse and impersonating a nursing assistant.

Residents at a rest home shut down last year by the state, lived in filthy conditions and often lacked adequate food and hot water, said a recent state report. A former nursing home operator has been sentenced to serve 20 years in prison.  The 64-year-old nursing home operator was sentenced Monday following his conviction of Medicare and Medicaid fraud program by providing what the judge called “worthless services.” State inspectors closed the man’s two nursing homes in 2007 because of the poor conditions. The family of a severely disabled young man have filed a federal complaint against the state after staff at a residential care center allegedly beat him with a stick. The 22-year-old was neglected and malnourished before he died of pneumonia last year. The complaint, filed by the family, says five staff members at the facility abuse the man, who was in their care and had unexplained cuts and bruises when taken to the hospital.

The owner of an assisted-living facility has been charged with reckless endangerment after an 84-year-old resident fell through a floor, suffering a head injury and several broken bones, according to police. The facility’s owner was charged with one count of reckless endangerment and two counts of abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult, according to a state police news release. Police have confirmed that the female resident was listed in critical condition over the weekend.
