A Staunton man previously employed at an area nursing home faced charges this week after he assaulted patients there, police say.  The nursing home has also been accused of not properly reporting the allegations of abuse. The man, 47, was a nurse’s aide (CNA) at Envoy Nursing Home in Staunton.  According to police, he assaulted two patients at the facility.

One State’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has plan to visit a nursing home after a resident was found to have wounds infested with maggots. According to the DHHS, the facility informed the department about the incident and their plan of corrective action. The facility where the incident occurred is a 74-bed facility affiliated with a nearby hospital.

A 50-year-old assisted living facility employee was fired after the son of a recently-deceased resident complained that several of his mother’s belongings had been stolen from her apartment. The executive director of the facility reviewed surveillance footage which displayed the employee, taking three laundry carts full of property from the deceased tenant’s apartment. Police have confirmed that a nursing center employee secretly videotaped a woman in one of the facility’s bathrooms. The twenty-year-old male employee was charged of the crime this week. Police say the man set his cell phone to record video in an employee bathroom.

A nurse accused of neglecting dementia residents at a nursing home has been suspended from practicing in the healthcare profession. The nurse, who worked at a nursing home that has since been closed, was a mental health nurse in 2009 when four women and one man died at the facility within two weeks of each other.
