Nursing Home Operator Convicted of Fraud & Embezlement

According the the United States Attorney’s office, a former nursing home operator has been convicted of fraud.  The man, 57, was sentenced last week by a Senior United States District Judge to 18 months of imprisonment, followed by two years probation, for embezzling more than $800,000 from a nursing home that is in bankruptcy proceedings. Court proceedings revealed that the man, as the owner and operator of a 90-bed nursing home, embezzled $817,212 from the bankruptcy estate’s accounts. He…

Resident of Nursing Home Indicted After Setting Fire to the Facility

A 52-year-old woman faces up to 30 years in prison for allegedly trying to set the nursing home she lived in on fire. The former nursing home resident was indicted recently by a grand jury on charges of aggravated arson, residential arson, and criminal damage to property in connection with the July 3 incident. The indictment states that the woman knew or should have known others were in the facility when she set fire to the building.

Certified Nurse's Aide Charged with Abuse of Elderly Resident

A woman charged in June with abuse of a nursing home resident patient appeared this week in court. The woman, 50, faces felony counts of abuse of a patient and aggravated battery. According to a report to police by another nursing home employee, the woman, a certified nursing assistant, had been abusing an 86-year-old resident, over a period of six months.
