Nursing Home Employee Charged with Using Elderly Resident's Credit Card Account
A woman was arrested Friday for allegedly stealing at least $29,000 from an elderly nursing home resident. According to police, the woman worked at the nursing home, where she befriended the man, getting power of attorney and control of his bank accounts. The 31-year-old admissions office employee was charged with theft of entrusted funds, theft by deception and multiple counts of theft by credit card, police said.
Assisted Living Facility Sued After Two Residents Were Routinely Beaten
An assisted living facility is being sued based on allegations that two elderly male residents were beat at the facility. According to the attorney for the two men, an 89 year old World War Two veteran and a 92 year old resident were violently beaten on several occasions. The abuse was discovered when a medication care manager went into one of the residents room and saw him crying. When asked what was wrong, the man said “he hit me.” From there, the investigation grew.
Coroner Blames Hospital Acquired Bed Sores For Elderly Resident's Death
The family of hospital patient who died from gangrenous bed sores (also known as pressure sores, pressure ulcers, decubitus sores, and decubitus ulcers) has sued the hospital for neglect. Today a coroner rejected hospital claims that the man was bound to die after being admitted with a stroke, and that his death was from natural causes. Instead, the coroner said that the “inadequate” care cause the man to developed bed sores on his back, buttocks, scrotum and legs.
Long Term Care Facility Found to be Deficient by Accreditation Agency
The Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency has found that one long term care facility was deficient in six areas. The agency found staff at the facility were not routinely documenting when an incident happened, including occurrences of elder abuse. In addition the audit found residents with behavioural problems were not being properly managed and staff were slow to respond when people activated their call bells.
Fire Prompts Evacuation at Virginia Nursing Home
Residents and staff of Bon Secours Maryview Nursing Care Center, in Suffolk, Virginia, were evacuated after an industrial dryer caught fire and caused heavy smoke yesterday morning. According to The Virginia-Pilot, no one was injured. One-hundred-and-twenty residents were evacuated along with 135 staff members after heavy smoke was seen throughout the maintenance wing of the facility.
Family Reports More Allegations of Abuse at Nursing Home
The family of a nursing home resident is speaking out, stating that their 68-year-old relative had to be taken to the hospital due to injuries from alleged neglect. This just days after a criminal elder abuse investigation was launched against the facility. The resident’s daughter-in-law said she was speaking out because she wanted to paint a troubling picture of what’s really going on at the facility.
