Nursing Home Fire Erupts Sending 18 People to the Hospital

A fire at one nursing home sent 18 people to the hospital over the weekend. Emergency crews from across the area were called to the facility to help evacuate the 43 residents. According to facility employees, those residents won’t be able to move back in for three to four days because of the damage caused by the fire.

Woman Arrested for Stealing Over $300,000 From Elderly Nursing Home Resident

A woman was arrested last week after accusations that she stole over $300,000 from a 67-year-old nursing home resident. According to investigators, when the victim entered permanent nursing home care in July of 2007, the 65-year-old suspect obtained Power of Attorney. While authorized as her attorney in fact, the woman took control of the victim’s bank account.

Caregiver Arrested After Elderly Man's Suspicious Death

A woman was charged Wednesday with domestic assault and elder abuse after a man she shared a home with died. The 67-year-old man was malnourished and had numerous injuries, including fractured hands and feet, police say. Additionally, police said a homicide investigation is continuing as they await the city medical examiner’s ruling on the man’s cause of death.

Facility Investigated After Resident's Wandering Death

A state investigation into the death of an 84-year-old assisted living resident has resulted in the determination that conditions at the facility at the time constituted a “real and present danger” to residents. Doctor Pleads No Contest to Drugging Elderly Nursing Home Residents

A former physician at a nursing home has taken a plea deal in connection with alleged inappropriate drugging of patients. The doctor pleaded  no contest to conspiracy to commit an act injurious to public health. Eight other felony charges were dismissed.  In addition to criminal penalties, which will be determined next month, the physician was placed on probation for two years by the State Medical Board.

Assisted Living Facility Shut Down Following State Order

Residents and employees have cleared out of an assisted living facility ordered to shut down by state officials. The operator said she complied with a state order to close down her business. The facility, closed down May 31, had been been given a state order to shut down by April 12.
