A nurses aide has been fired after biting a combative nursing home resident on the head. Allegedly, the aide was assisting a female resident on the toilet when the resident because combative. The resident bit the aide on the arm and for roughly a minute she would not release her bite.

A community is in shock after a 66-year-old man brought a gun to a nursing home, shot his wife, and turned the gun on himself. The man’s wife, 69, went to the nursing home to recover from a broken hip, police said. Police said they haven’t come up with a clear motive for the murder-suicide that occurred Sunday evening at the nursing home.

A former administrator of a personal care home had been sentenced to 23 months on intermediate punishment (house arrest) for pleading no contest to stealing money from a resident. the woman was convicted in December 2010 on three counts of felony theft and one count of misappropriation of property for stealing more than $20,000 from an elderly resident at the facility. Residents of one nursing home are benefiting from $4,000 grant for the purchase of iPods, headsets and music downloads for the residents. The activities director at the facility said the residents are asking for them faster than staff can load the music. To create an individual music experience for every resident, residents or their family members could request a certain genre of music, or fill out surveys regarding their musical tastes.

A woman has been arrested on $25,000 bond after allegedly stealing nearly $300,000 from an elderly man who she cared for and using it to pay her mortgage, travel expenses, and purchase a vehicle.  The caregiver, 44, faces charges of abuse of an adult for exploitation and neglect after an investigation by Adult Protective Services (APS).
