Nursing Home Employee Sentenced to Jail After “Borrowing” Money From Elderly Residents

A woman was sentenced last week for taking funds from two elderly residents at the nursing home where she worked. The woman, 43, was sentenced to 60 days in jail, five years of probation, and ordered to pay a $300 fine after she pleaded guilty last summer to four counts of Financial Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult. From March 2009 to November 2010, while she was employed at the nursing home, she had taken $62,994.80, according to the criminal complaint.

Husband and Wife Charged In Scam Against Elderly Assisted Living Resident

The husband of a woman facing charges on elder abuse has also been charged as new developments have unfolded.  The couple is accused of stealing from a relative living in an assisted living home. According to police, the couple spent $83,000 of Jackie Humphrey’s life savings in Hamilton County. The woman, a relative, had power of attorney over Humphrey’s financial affairs.

Elderly Woman in Critical Condition After Being Attacked in Suffolk Assisted Living

A 42-year-old man has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding after police say he attacked an elderly resident at a Oakwood Assisted Living Thursday evening. Debbie George, a representative of the City of Suffolk said that the resident attacked a 92-year-old woman sometime before 6:30 p.m. The elderly woman sustained severe facial injuries and was transported to Norfolk General Hospital.

State Report Details Violence in One Nursing Home

A survey released this week by the Department of Health details multiple resident altercations at the same nursing home in the past year and a half. The facility received citations in connection with incidents occurring last August, last October, and this January. The facility wasn’t cited for the incidents themselves, rather, for failing to report the incidents to the health department immediately, the document says.
