Nursing Home Fined for Neglect After Dementia Patient was Found Two-Blocks from Facility
A nursing home has been cited for neglect by the State Department of Health after a resident left the building unattended. The facility was subsequently investigated for failing to provide adequate supervision to a resident with dementia and severe cognitive impairment. The incident occurred September 2011 when a resident left the facility early one morning.
Woman Pleads Guilty to Stealing from Bank Accounts of Disabled Adults
The former manager of finances of a care facility for disabled adults was sentenced to 10 years of probation and ordered to pay restitution after pleading guilty to the financial exploitation and theft of a vulnerable adult. The woman pleaded guilty in December to two of the eight crimes she was accused of. She was ordered to pay $45,000 in restitution on last week.
Nursing Home Closes Doors After Losing Funding
The nursing home where one man died and six were injured in a fire earlier this month closed its doors last Friday. The facility’s 33 residents were transferred to other area nursing homes. Fire officials determined that the fire was the result of the explosion of an illegal meth lab operation evidently conducted by the fire victim, a non-resident.
Nursing Home Resident Sues After Fall Resulting in Head and Face Injuries
According to a recently filed complaint, a man who sustained a fall in a nursing home has sued the facility. The former resident alleges he was living at the facility when he sustained a fall which resulted in injuries to his face and head. According to the complaint, the man was not provided with side rails to prevent the fall.

Pets on Wheels, Inc. a nonprofit organization in Northern Virginia that allows owners of dogs, cats and rabbits to visit residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities will be celebrating its 25-year anniversary this year. Pets in consideration for the program undergo several scenarios measuring their obedience to their owners, reactions to moving wheelchairs, and multiple strangers petting them simultaneously.
Assisted Living Facility Employee Arrested for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Resident
A former assisted living facility maintenance worker has been arrested on sex abuse charges, accused of requesting sex and inappropriately touching a 72-year-old woman living at the facility. Police began an investigation into the abuse of the female resident in late December. The investigation revealed that the 49-year-old building maintenance worker, allegedly requested sex from the woman and inappropriately touched her several times while in her living quarters, contact which police say was u…
