The family of a nursing home patient who died after a physical altercation with another resident is suing the facility for wrongful death, according to a press release issued last week by the family’s lawyers. According to the lawsuit, the facility failed to protect the patient from physical abuse and failed to provide appropriate supervision. The man, an 80-year-old resident of the facility was assaulted by a fellow resident, 66, with a violent criminal record and felony background.

A woman has been sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to Negligent Homicide and Criminal Mistreatment I in connection with the death of her mother.  The woman was the caretaker to her elderly diabetic mother – who died of a heart condition aggravated by neglect, massive bedsores (pressure ulcers, or decubitus ulcers), stomach ulcers and infection. A former nursing assistant spent eight days in jail after being found guilty of taking disturbing photos of elderly or disabled patients and posting them publicly on Facebook. A jury convicted the 26-year-old of invasion of personal privacy, a misdemeanor, late last month. She finished her prison sentence on Friday.

A 58-year-old mentally ill man was found at a truck stop earlier this week about three hours after he was reported missing his nursing home. The same nursing home had a resident wander away from the facility and die earlier this year. The resident, who suffers from schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder, was found by staff members at the truck stop.

A nursing home resident has been charged with second-degree rape after he allegedly assaulted a fellow resident at the facility last week, according to District Court records. The man, 38-years-old, was being held in jail on $100,000 bond. He is also charged with second- and third-degree sex offense and second-degree assault, according to court records.

According to a fire chief in in one state, a drug lab in the room of a nursing home resident caused a fire that killed one person and injured six others. The Fire Chief has announced that the injured man died Monday, following the Sunday night fire at the nursing home. He has also said the lab was making methamphetamine.
