Bond Denied to Woman Who Smothered Elderly Assisted Living Resident
A nurse’s aide accused of embezzling from and smothering to death an 82-year-old assisted living patient in November was denied bond in a hearing on Friday. The 31-year-old nurse’s aid confessed to killing the woman, whom she had cared for at the center, and then trying to cover up the crime. According to officials, the aide forged and cashed more than $1,200 in checks made out to herself on the elderly woman’s account.
Nurse's Assistant Charged After Stealing Nearly 150 Peices of Jewelry from Elderly
A woman accused of stealing as much as $10,000 in jewelry from nursing home residents was sentenced Thursday in District Court. The woman, 23, was ordered to serve a 30-day jail sentence, pay more than $4,000 restitution, write a letter of apology to each victim and use no alcohol or controlled substances. She was also placed on supervised probation for 10 years.
Grandson Sues Hosptial After Grandmother Developes Infected Pressure Ulcers
A man is suing the hospital where he says his grandmother died from gangrene stemming from untreated pressure ulcers (pressure sores, bed sores, decubitus ulcers) on her feet. Hid grandmother, who died at 91, developed pressure ulcers on her skin during a hospital stay, which over the next two months, developed into a blood infection, then gangrene on both feet. The grandson feels that the hospital was neglectful for not amputating the feet or catching the infection earlier on.
Assisted Living Resident Charged With Felony Arson
A forty-six year old man has been charged in District Court for intentionally starting a an assisted living facility. The man faces a felony arson charge which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and/or a $20,000 fine. According to a criminal complaint filed with the court, the man, who lived at the facility, came forward following the fire to admit he had started it.
Parents Uncover Abuse of Autistic Child After Installing Hidden Camera in Nursing Home
A couple has captured abuse of their autistic son on camera after installing a hidden camera in the sons nursing home room. Their son, 22-year-old, requires more assistance than his parents can provide due to his size and severe autism. Within days of living in the nursing home, the family received a phone call from their son’s dentist notifying them that their son had a compound jaw fracture. Nursing Home Sued After Allegations of Sexual Assault by Employee
A 63-year-old woman filed a lawsuit this week after an incident in February 2009. The woman, who suffers from expressive aphasia, a condition that limits her ability to speak or communicate, has alleged that an employe at her nursing home sexually assaulted her. The employee was found not guilty last year in District Court of the sexual assault after a two-day trial.
