The son of an elderly woman is suing her nursing home after his mother was left with a severe brain injury. the son claims that while his mother was a resident of the the nursing home from May 2008 through April 2010, she sustained multiple falls. Former Care Home Director Sentenced to Prison After Stealing Thousands From Residents

The former director of a personal care home was sentenced in court this week following allegations of theft and exploitation.  The man, who was sentenced in circuit court circuit court, was ordered to serve 2 years in federal prison, 10 years probation, and he must pay $340,000 in restitution. Combative Nursing Home Resident Tased by Police After He Stabbed Employee

A nursing home resident was stunned with a taser this week after he reportedly used a ballpoint pen to stab a female employee in the chest.  Police were called to the facility early Wednesday morning to subdue a 79-year-old man who staff could not control. According to police, the resident was shouting that he wanted to kill everybody. The elder man, who suffers from dementia, refused to put down the pen or talk to officers.

Department of Health Issues Fines Following Deadly Incidents at Various Nursing Homes

The Department of Public Health in one state has issued penalties against three nursing homes in the same county after concluding that poor care led to deaths at each of the facilities. The three facilities got the most serious citations possible under state law, according to the Health Department. The first facility must pay $75,000 following the 2010 death of a patient, who suffered a fatal brain injury after falling out of bed.
