Nursing home residents are in shock after a Christmas Eve blaze claimed the life of a female resident at the facility. Police say officers received a report of a fire at a local nursing home on Saturday evening. Multiple police and fire departments all responded to the fire.
Elderly Woman Stabbed to Death at Long Term Care Facility
Police are investigating the holiday stabbing death of an 82-year-old woman at one long-term care home. The woman’s 82-year-old husband is in custody. the facility has not commented on the incident, but early reports are that the woman was killed with a hunting knife.
Three Arrested in Connection with Drug Ring at Medical Facility
Thee medical center staff have been arrested including a doctor whose license was suspended in October for writing excessive prescriptions for powerful painkillers that may have contributed to a patient’s death. The cost of providing Meals on Wheels for one year to a senior living at home is less than the cost of one day’s hospitalization if that senior’s condition deteriorates. At a Christmas event held this month, Meals on Wheels administrators and volunteers stressed the importance of the program in the face of drastic federal cuts. “It’s very important to keep people in homes,” said Darlene Morgenstern-Loch, assistant director of Lutheran Social Service’s Senior Nutrition Program.
