Family Sues Nursing Home After Relative's Fall-Related Death
The family of a 78-year-old woman who died after a fall at a nursing home have filed a wrongful death lawsuit. On March 4 the elderly woman was heard yelling for help and found on the floor next to her bed at the facility. The woman suffered head trauma and a brain hemorrhage. However, according to the complaint, the nursing home staff placed her back in bed, where she was later found unresponsive.
Federal Government Determines Nation's Worst Nursing Homes
Two nursing homes are susceptible to loosing their Medicare and Medicaid funding, after being labeled by federal officials as among the worst in the nation for providing poor or substandard quality of care. Recent health inspections at the two facilities found an increased number of deficiencies when compared to the statewide and national averages. Elderly Assisted Living Residents in Bedford Evacuated After Fire
Residents of an assisted living center in Bedford were evacuated temporarily Friday night due to a fire at the facility. No one was injured when the fire, caused by a dryer, broke out. However, one 90-year-old resident was taken to the hospital for what appeared to be an anxiety attack during the fire at Carriage Hill Retirement Center according to Bedford Assistant Fire Chief Russell Stevens.
Daughter of Nursing Home Abuse Victim Seeks New Legislation to Protect Victims
The daughter of a 92-year-old dementia patient living in a nursing home was shocked when her father matter-of-factly told her that a nurse at the facility had hit him that morning. The elderly man said “she smacked me hard on the nose, twice, because I wasn’t rousing quickly enough.” After the revelation, the man’s daughter came forward about the abuse and the facility said they would perform an internal investigation. Housekeeper Arrested For A Second Time For Stealing from Elderly Clients
According to police, A woman has been jailed for allegedly stealing money from elderly clients. This is the second time in a matter of months that the 48-year-old housekeeper has been arrested on charges of elder abuse, forgery, and possession of stolen property. In both instances, the suspect allegedly stole checks from women, both of them 83-years-old, while she worked as their housekeeper.
