Richmond Man on Trial Following Elderly Mother's Death
The trial of a Richmond man accused of neglecting his 86-year-old mother, who was found dead with bedsores, gangrene and surrounded by flies started this week in the Richmond Circuit Court. Richard Lee Wallace, 57, is charged with elder abuse or neglect of an incapacitated adult resulting in death. The prosecutors say that the man failed to seek medical attention for his deteriorating mother.
Nursing Home Fire Leaves Hundreds of Elderly Homeless
Over 400 nursing home patients are waiting to return to their rooms after the building caught fire in the morning hours. Officials with the fire department suspect that the fire was started when a resident’s cigarette ignited a mattress on the sixth floor of the building around 1.a.m. Monday.

A nursing home has been fined $75,000 by the department of health after an investigation following the death of a resident. The facility also received a Class “AA” citation which is the most severe punishment under state law. The daughter of an 88-year-old nursing home resident who suffered from dementia has learned that her father did not die a natural death in his bed at the nursing home. Nursing Home Resident Dies After Nurses Mis-read Prescription
A resident of one nursing home died after she was repeatedly given doses of potassium chloride that were 10 times the amount she had been prescribed, a state investigation has found. State regulators blamed the deadly error on a nurse who misread the prescription. The patent, 84, died of cardiac arrest last December after receiving 14 doses of the drug.
