Family Sues Nursing Home After Complications From Fall Lead to Their Mother's Death
The family of a former nursing home patient has filed a wrongful death lawsuit has been filed against a county nursing home after the facility failed to provide the treatment and care that could have prevented their loved one’s death in 2009. The woman, who died at age 78 had been at the facility since 2005. Now, her daughters claim that nursing home staff failed to detect a severe abdominal infection which ruptured when their mother fell at the facility.
Nursing Home CFO Charged With Theft and Fraud
A former chief financial officer (CFO) for a nonprofit nursing home has pleaded not guilty to allegations he stole $52,000 from the facility. The trial will take place in November in connection with the charges of larceny and obtaining property by false pretenses. He is accused of obtaining fraudulent expense reimbursements totaling almost $24,000 and of using two of the nursing home’s credit cards to charge more than $28,000 for personal expenses.

State and local agencies have begun investigating a nursing home after one of its residents was discovered with open sores and maggots on his feet. Police said the 67-year-old male resident was taken to the hospital recently for treatment of chest pains. Doctors called police after finding open sores and maggots on the man’s feet.
Nursing Home Crowd Getting Younger for Some Nursing Homes
According to recent data, nursing homes are seeing an influx of younger residents. In recent years, up to 15 percent of the residents at one facility studied are in their 50s, said the social services director at the nursing home and rehabilitation facility. The most common reasons younger residents move into nursing homes is to recover from serious accidents or because of drug- or alcohol-induced injuries, such as a stroke, she said.
Nursing Home Employee Pleaded Guilty to Abuse of Residents
A former nursing home employee pleaded guilty to abusing patients at the home in criminal court. The woman pleaded guilty to four counts of willful abuse or neglect of an adult. She had been arrested in March 2010 after investigators determined that she abused several patients at nursing home.
