Family Files Suit After Elderly Woman Dies With Head Caught in Bed Rails at Nursing Home

The children of a woman who died when her head was lodged between the side rails and air mattress on her bed at a nursing home have now filed suit. In the complaint, the family blames the manufacturer of the mattress and side rails for their mother’s death on August 24, 2009. Nursing Home Fined $740,000 for Care Violations

The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has fined one nursing home over $700,000 after a state inspection. The inspection report by the State Department of Health lists a number of minor infractions and five serious violations.

Man Sentenced to Life in Prison in Connection with Nursing Home Shooting Spree

Jurors have found a North Carolina man guilty of eight counts of second-degree murder after deliberating for eight hours over two days. The 47-year-old man was then sentenced to eight consecutive sentences which will amount to life in prison. One woman, whose mother one of the victims, shook as she testified at a sentencing hearing after the verdict that his actions had a lasting effect on her five children, grandchildren and a great-grandchild she will never meet.

Nursing Home Business Manager Charged with Forgery and Theft

A woman has been arrested for allegedly forging over $18,000.00 in checks while working at a nursing and rehabilitation facility.  The woman allegedly forged the checks while working as a business office manager for the facility. Last week the District Attorney’s office filed a criminal complaint charging the woman with 29 counts of forgery, one count of theft by unlawful taking and one count of receiving stolen property. In July, the facility administrator to terminate the employee.

Power Restored for Most Virginia Nursings Homes & Assisted Living Facilities

Residents at nursing home’s in Virginia ate their meals on paper plates and played bingo to help pass the time before full power was restored last week.
