Owner of Home Care Facility Sentenced to Jail After Fall Investigation
The former owner of one home care facility was sentenced to a month in jail in connection to a resident’s fall. The State Attorney General’s office announced the sentencing of of the home care owner Monday. According to the Attorney General’s office, the woman’s facility was investigated following a resident’s fall.
Elderly Dementia Patient Missing from Nursing Home Since August 21
The search for 73-year-old missing nursing home resident was reduced Thursday evening as the Sheriff’s Office will no longer seek the assistance of a search and rescue organization. According to police, unless new leads are developed, the agency cannot seek additional assistance from the organization. The 73-year-old man has been missing since August 21.
Fire at Nursing Home Caused by Motorized Wheelchair
Fire Department officials says residents are back in their rooms after a fire broke out at a nursing home earlier this week. The fire chief says a motorized chair caught fire inside a resident’s room at about 10 p.m. Tuesday.
Study Reveals Link Between Hospital Stays and Risk of Infection and Adverse Drug Reactions
According to a new study published in Medical Care, the longer a patient stays in the hospital the more his or her risk of acquiring an infection, having an adverse drug reaction, or developing a pressure ulcer (also known as bed sores, pressure sores and decubitus ulcers) rises. Nursing Home Admissions Suspended After Employees Violate Resident's Dignity
The state has suspended admissions to one nursing home for a second time this summer. The suspension was imposed after a complaint investigation Aug. 15-19 found that two employees took a cellphone photo of a patient and set it to several other people.
Nursing Home Ordered To Shut Down After Repeated Violations and Warnings
Federal regulators have ordered a nursing home be completely shut down by September 22, 2011. The notice comes after repeated failures to fix problems revealed after a patient died in 2009 when she apparently choked on a cookie she was not supposed to have. The facility was cited at least 85 times for violations, and the State Agency for Health Care Administration had threatened to shut it down several times over the last two years.
